What started out as a cross promotion between one of the world’s largest retailers and a Miami rapper was seized upon by internet pranksters, and it may result in Kodiak getting a little concert out of the deal.

Through the middle of July, Walmart has a promotion on its Facebook page where the store with the most "Likes" will get a visit from the rapper Pitbull, known to his family and friends as Armando Perez.

David Thorpe, a writer for the weekly Boston Phoenix, thought it’d be a hoot to exile Pitbull to the most remote, desolate, and out of the way Walmart in America – and he figured that would be the one in Kodiak. So Thorpe started an online campaign to have the Kodiak Walmart "Liked" by thousands of people.

And he’s succeeded so far – the Kodiak store has over 34,000 likes, which is about five times the population of the town. The other Alaska stores have about 600 Likes.

Upon hearing that Kodiak was leading, Pitbull tweeted that he was glad the Kodiak store carried bear repellent.

Pitbull currently has a hit with the song "Back in Time," from the Men In Black III movie. One of the lines goes "I got the globe (yeah) in the palm of my hand; wherever I spin it, that’s where I land." Well, if the internet has anything to say about it, he may be landing in Kodiak.
