Residents in Anchorage experienced what could very well have been the coldest July on record up there. But here in Kodiak, while it’s been cold, it hasn’t been record cold.
The National Weather Service says the monthly average of 51.9 degrees is 2.2 degrees below the historic monthly average.
At 66 degrees, the warmest day last month was actually above the daily normal high of 61.4. The coldest temperature was 40 degrees, which was 8.5-degrees cooler than the daily normal low for July.
Despite the cold, it hasn’t been cold AND rainy. In fact, only four inches fell in July, which is about an inch short of normal. In fact, it’s been a dry year – not even an inch fell in June, and since January 1st, total rainfall has been 30.44 inches, which is 11.64-inches short of the 42-inches that is normal. It’s even about two inches less than last year through the end of July, which was a pretty warm and sunny summer.
