Former KFL Player Walks On at Running Back for Ducks

The University of Oregon Ducks football team has a new running backing, and he hails from Kodiak – sort of.

Bill Chimphalee, now a junior walk-on for the Ducks squad, was a star running back for the Kenai Central High School Kardinals, and has been playing for Orange Coast College in California. However, he started his football career here in Kodiak, playing in the early years of the Kodiak Football League before his family moved to Kenai.

Listed as 6-foot and 210-pounds, Chimphalee is one of two walk-on running backs added to the Ducks’ roster. The other is freshman Lane Roseberry of Bly, Oregon.

The Ducks, which went 12-2 last year, are ranked fifth in the nation by the USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll. LSU, Alabama, Southern Cal and Oklahoma round out the top five.
