Bears Winless on New Turf as Season Nears End

The Kodiak High School Bears football team is still winless on its brand new artificial turf field at Baranof Park. The Homer Mariners, who had been tied with the Bears in second place of the Northern Lights Conference, blanked Kodiak Monday night 20-to-nothing.
The Bears had previously lost to arch-rivals Soldotna last week, in the first game after the several-million-dollar field was installed.
The Bears drop to 2-and-2 in the NLC and 3-and-4 overall, while the Mariners move up to 3-and-1 in-conference and 4-and-2 overall.
The Kodiak version of Monday Night Football was forced when the Mariners couldn’t make it onto The Rock due to poor weather conditions over the weekend. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, and then Sunday.
It was the last home game of the season for the Bears, who finish their schedule with a game Saturday at Skyview against the Panthers. Kodiak could still have a chance to make the medium-school playoffs with a win, though only the top three teams from the NLC will advance to the post season.
