The Kodiak girls and boys swimming and diving teams dominated the Homer Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Both won 10 of the 12 events. The Kodiak girls scored 135 points to take first, while the Kodiak boys scored 150. Kenai was second among the girls teams, followed by Palmer, Seward and Homer. On the boys side, Colony was second, with Homer third, followed by Palmer and Kenai.
The Kodiak volleyball team swept Kenai Central here at home in straight sets both Friday evening and Saturday morning. On Friday Hannah Wandersee and Megan Pyles had eight kills each, Kaia Yatsik had six and Kalameli Matautia had four service aces. On Saturday, Pyles had seven kills, Wandersee five and Erika Fabricante had four aces.
The Kodiak High School Bears football team is now 2-and-0 in the Northern Lights Conference after a stunning last-second 20-19 win up in Kenai. The Bears return home next Saturday to play arch-rival Soldotna on the brand new artificial turf at the Joe Floyd Track and Field. Kodiak will have its work cut out for them, as the Stars rolled over Houston this weekend 60-to-nothing.
At the Palmer Invite, sophomore runner Levi Thomet won with a time of 15-minutes 45-seconds to edge teammate Cole Christiansen by less than two seconds. It wasn’t enough to overcome West Valley’s barrage of four runners in the top seven, though. The Wolf Pack was first with 29 points to Kodiak’s 69. Grace Christian was third, Colony fourth and Kenai fifth. The Kodiak girls were fourth with 92 points. Grace Christian jumped up from small schools to win, followed by Lathrop and Colony. Soldotna was fifth.
