The Kodiak High School Bears football team closed the regular season on a high note, with a 20-14 win over the Skyview Panthers in Soldotna Sunday. The win gives the Bears a 3-and-2 record in the Northern Lights Conference and the third seed in the medium school play offs. Kodiak will be traveling back to Soldotna to play the So-Hi Stars next Saturday. The Bears finish the season 4-and-4 over all.
In the other play off matchup, Homer, which finished second in the NLC, travels to play Southeast Conference champ Thunder Mountain on Friday at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, the Bears relied on defense and special teams to put points on the board, starting with the opening kick-off, which was run back for a touchdown. Skyview took a 14-6 lead in the second period, but on the ensuing kickoff, the Bears special teams once again ran it back for a touchdown for a 14-12 halftime lead. An interception return for a TD at the beginning of the fourth period sealed the Kodiak win.
