City Unloading Surplus at Friday Auction

Looking for a used fire truck? How about a 2,600 gallon water truck?
If so, then the City of Kodiak may have just the deal for you. A decommissioned fire truck and the water truck are just two of the vehicles available for sale at the city’s surplus auction scheduled for noon on Friday at the old jail.
More conventional vehicles include an F-150 pickup, a couple of Ford Expeditions, and a van. There is also a variety of furniture and general office items.
City Finance Director Mary Monk says the city periodically puts surplus items up for sale.
She says the best way to see what’s available is to go to the complete listing posted on the city’s website. The six-page auction notice is located under “Surplus Sales” on the home page.
Paper copies are available in Room 211 of the Borough Building.
The clue to where much of the sale items came from is the location of the auction itself, as most things came from the old jail. Some items even come with “provenance” – there’s a note in the auction notice that tells you which part of the jail the item came from.
While it’s almost a given that you won’t find anything worth showing to “Antique Auction Road Show”, you can get a set of yellow plastic buckets from the booking room. They have a minimum bid price of $25. Desks from various rooms in the old jail are mostly in the $50 to $100 range.
The fire truck is the big ticket item and will set you back at least $8,000, while the minimum bid on the water truck is just $1,000. All sales are final, payment is due on Friday, and all items are sold “as is, where is” and must be hauled away on Friday.
