Last night the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly met for a rather quick regular meeting. The evening kicked off with Mayor Jerome Selby’s run down of which assembly members will serve on what boards and committees.

The assembly also held a public hearing on a change to the architectural engineering review board. Acting Borough Manager Bud Cassidy said the change would make it so a borough assembly member cannot serve on that board.

The assembly voted unanimously in favor of the ordinance.

Later, during the borough manager’s report Cassidy told the assembly members that work on the landfill may be done sooner than expected.
He said that portion of the project is already funded and he will provide the assembly with updates as they come.

In other business the assembly voted for a Deputy Presiding Officer, someone who will conduct meetings and business in lieu of Mayor Selby, if he is ever absent. Assemblywomen Louise Stutes and Chris Lynch were nominated for the position and after an anonymous vote Lynch prevailed 4-3.

The next borough assembly meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. on November 15 in the borough assembly chambers.
