Salvation Army Helping Working Poor, Others, on Thanksgiving

On this day before Thanksgiving when families are prepping for tomorrow’s big dinner feast, some local families have something special to be thankful for. And that is food to eat on Thanksgiving.
A number of Kodiak’s non-profit and social service organizations are working with local stores and contributors to make the holiday that much nicer for the less fortunate.
The local Salvation Army is one such organization and Major Cathy Quinn says the Thanksgiving bags of food have already been distributed.
It’s not hard to imagine how easy it would be to go from thriving financially to barely making ends meet. An illness, major surgery, a job layoff.
Especially in Kodiak, where much of the local economy depends on fluctuating fishing seasons.
If you’ve been out to Safeway this week you may have noticed the bell ringers who begin their annual fund-raising efforts the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
Major Cathy Quinn of the local Salvation Army, who adds that if people don’t send it in they can’t send it out to help others.
