Borough Will Leave Green Space at landfill

On Thursday the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly approved the first reading of an ordinance that will rezone the landfill from a combination public use and conservation zone to an industrial zone. Borough Manager Bud Cassidy said the rezone is necessary for upcoming improvements to the landfill.

Duane Dvorak is an associate planner for the borough’s community development department. Dvorak said the planning and zoning commission have decided not to rezone the area within a designated green belt at the landfill.

The assembly approved the first reading of the ordinance, which will now move to a second reading and public hearing during the next assembly meeting on February 7.
