‘Unified Command’ Tight-Lipped About Kulluk

With the Royal Dutch Shell drilling rig Kulluk remaining at anchor in Kiliuda Bay until the tanner crab season is over, the company, salvagers and others continue to inspect and assess the once-grounded rig.
In addition, the risk-management company Det Norske Veritas is also consulting with Shell on the situation.
Unified Command says there are “more than 250” people in the Kodiak area responding in one way or another to the incident.
Except for diesel lost from its lifeboats, the Kulluk’s fuel tanks remain stable and no more fuel has spilled.
The Unified Command otherwise stays tight-lipped about the rig and its condition and future, saying they will not comment until a final assessment report is finalized.
It was three weeks ago when the Kulluk, under tow in the Gulf of Alaska, broke its lines in a typhoon and ran hard aground on Sitkalidak Island, near Old Harbor on New Year’s Eve.
