KMXT 100.1 FM Public Radio in Kodiak, Alaska
A handful of break-ins that occurred last weekend are being investigated by the Kodiak Police Department and Alaska State Troopers. Jasmine Gilpin is the manager of Near Island Coffee, a new drive-through coffee shop across the bridge on Near Island. The coffee shop has only been open for ten days, but Gilpin said she arrived early Sunday morning to a broken window.

Diana Fogler is a part-owner of K-Nine Kuts, a local dog grooming parlor, and said her business was also broken into on Saturday night.

Fogler said the break-in will most likely lead to a financial burden for the business.

There was also a reported break-in just after 12 a.m. on Sunday at Mill Bay Gas-N-Go. The Alaska State Troopers are currently investigating that situation.
Lieutenant Kyle Valerio said the Kodiak Police Department is continuing to investigate the incidences at Near Island Coffee and K-Nine Kuts, as well as another reported burglary that occured Tuesday morning on Shelikof Street.

Valerio said there definitely seems like there has been an increase in property crimes in the past few months, but whether or not they are related is still unknown.
