Downtown Revitalization on City’s Agenda

Brianna Gibbs/KMXT

Downtown revitalization will be one topic of conversation during tonight’s Kodiak City Council work session. In recent months more and more community members have approached the council about the condition of the downtown mall area. Complaints range from safety concerns and the number of vagrants to general aesthetics.
The police department has increased foot patrols in the area recently and parks and rec has added it to its list of places to maintain around town. City Mayor Pat Branson has also been working toward starting a community coalition that can help make decisions about potential beautification and changes in the area.
Also on tonight’s work session agenda is a discussion about legal representation for the Kodiak Fisheries Development Association. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in the borough conference room. Public comments are accepted at the start of each work session and limited to three minutes.
