The U.S. Commerce Department’s acting secretary, Cameron Kerry, announced the selection of one current and one new member for the North Pacific Fishery Management Council.
Reappointed is Kodiak’s Duncan Fields. Joining him on the council will be David Long of Wasilla. Both were appointed to three-year terms to begin on August 11th.
Sam Rauch, acting NOAA assistant administrator for fisheries, said he is looking forward to working with the new and returning council members. Each year, about a third of the 72 appointed members to the eight regional councils around the nation are appointed by the Secretary of Commerce. The secretary selects members for the North Pacific Council from nominations submitted by the governors of Alaska and Washington.
