Tonight the Kodiak City Council will hold a regular meeting and take a look at the Pier III replacement project. The council will vote on whether or not to authorize a an amendment to the professional services contract for design work on the pier, which City Manager Aimee Kniaziowski said is the next step in the process.
“Pier III, we’re getting there. The concept work’s been done. The wave study was completed, the geotech work was completed and our funding is in place so now it’s time to amend P&D’s contract to begin permitting and design work. We want everything wrapped up by the end of the year, that is the project schedule.”

Also on the council’s agenda is a resolution that will declare the City of Kodiak a Purple Heart City. Kniaziowski said Mayor Pat Branson was sent a letter recently from the Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 663 in the valley. The letter asked that Kodiak pass a resolution that would honor the contribution and sacrifice of veterans in Kodiak and around the state.
“Apparently this group does provide different types of support services to veterans and their families. They did say in their letter that Alaska was designated as a purple heart state and I think there are five or six communities that are also, all of them, I think all of them in the valley, no, the city of Kenai adopted. And so if council supports this then you can adopt the resolution or amend it or whatever you would like to do.”
Tonight’s meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in the borough assembly chambers. It will also be broadcast live on KMXT. The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly will also meet tonight. It will hold a work session right below the council meeting in the borough conference room. That meeting is also set to start at 7:30 p.m.
