Big Salmon Surge Over Weekend in KMA

About 55,000 salmon were netted on Saturday in the Kodiak Management Area, and another 156,000 on Sunday, bringing the season all-species harvest total to nearly 1.8-million fish.
Thirty-one thousand reds were caught Saturday and about 61,000 more on Sunday, bringing the season total harvest for sockeye to over 1.3-million. Over 15,000 pinks were netted on Saturday, with a big increase on Sunday to 59,000, boosting the season catch to 195,000. Just over 8,300 chum were caught Saturday and 35,000 on Sunday, boosting the season total over 235,000.
On Saturday, 347 kings were caught, with nearly 1,100 added Sunday, for a total of 14,741, while 123 coho were netted Saturday and an additional 787 on Sunday for a season harvest total so far to 1,477.
The west side fisheries account for 695,000 of the season’s sockeye catch, 120,000 of the pink harvest and 106,000 of the chum catch. Cape Igvak and Wide Bay fishermen have pulled in almost 300,000 more sockeye.
