The Kodiak High School Bears varsity football team kicked off its season a week late last Saturday with an in-conference win against Homer. The Bears got an unexpected bye in week one when the game with Voznesenka – a small Russian village near Homer – fell through.
The Bears’ bye week was supposed to be this upcoming Saturday, but an out-of conference game was scheduled for 3 p.m. against the junior varsity of South High School in Anchorage. The South C-team will travel to Kodiak to play the Bears’ JV at 2 p.m.
After this weekend, Kodiak will play four of five games against Northern Lights Conference opponents, and four of five games here at home.
Kenai will visit the first weekend in September, Kodiak will travel to play arch-rival Soldotna the next weekend, and the Bears will close out the season with three games at home, including Thunder Mountain, Houston and Skyview.
We’ve got the Northern Lights Conference schedule after the jump.
