Former Kodiak Island Borough Assemblyman Jerrol Friend announced his candidacy for borough mayor yesterday on Facebook.
One of his stated goals is to give voice to citizens and their ideas that are not currently being heard.
“I don’t claim to know it all. But I do look at ideas and can work off those ideas. That’s what I really pride myself on being able to take other people’s ideas and help them bring them forward. Because there are a lot of people out there that … they know, they’re living it,” Friend said. “And so they’ve got ideas of what will help them and help them bring them forward, but they’re afraid to. Coming up to that podium is hard to do and talk. It’s very hard.”
He believes leveraging social media and holding webinars with residents will help them present their ideas in a non-threatening forum that they’re already familiar with.
Friend is a self-employed general contractor. He served two terms, or six years, on the assembly, and spent over a decade on the borough’s Planning and Zoning Commission.
Tune into KMXT news on Monday when we’ll have hear more from Jerrol Friend on his run for mayor.
