Records Fall as Swimming, Volleyball Seasons Near End

Swimming and Diving
In Swimming, the Kodiak Bears are again the top team in Region III, cruising to the team titles in Kenai. The Kodiak girls had 82 points for their seventh straight region title, while the boys scored 97 for their fifth straight crown, and 9th out of the last 11.
There were over 200 swimmers and divers competing and six region records set, including two each by Ila Hughes and Tahna Lindquist.
Hughes took region records in the 100 and 200 meter freestyle races, while Lindquist broke her own records from last year in the 200 individual medley, and then setting a record of 5-minutes in the 500 freestyle, seven seconds faster than her previous mark. She won by over 20-second. By comparison, she would have beaten everyone in the boys 500-meter race by more than four seconds.
We’ve got full results after the jump.

Volleyball
The Kodiak High School volleyball team will be seeded number one when the Region III tournament comes around later this week. The Bears remained undefeated in region play by sweeping Palmer over the weekend. They were the only other undefeated team in the region.
On Friday, the first game was close, with Kodiak winning 27-25, but the Bears downed the Moose easily 25-12 and 25-16 in the final two games to win the match 3-0.
On Saturday, the Bears dropped the third game 19-25, after winning 25-15 and 25-18. Kodiak came back to clinch 25-15.
As the top seed in the regions, Kodiak will get a first round bye and face either fourth-seeded Colony or fifth-seeded Wasilla. Their first game will be Thursday evening in Soldotna, and will be streamed live online, as have all their games this year.
