Even though New Year’s Eve conditions were less than ideal for fireworks, there won’t be a rain check for usage any time soon. Fireworks were only legal in the Kodiak Island Borough until January 1, meaning any pyrotechnics leftover today will have to be saved until this summer.
Borough code bans the use of fireworks without a permit most of the year, but allows them between December 26 and January 1, as well as June 15 through July 15. Those dates only allow usage outside of city limits. Fireworks are banned year round within city limits.
