Caballa Wins 120 at Region; Lady Bears Continue to Dominate

The Northern Lights Conference wrestling tournament was held at Colony High School in the Valley over the weekend, with the Bears taking third.
Andrew Caballa was Kodiak’s only title-winner in the 120-pound category. Four other wrestlers, Joel Valdez, Jay-Ar Small, Kerry Powers and Leo Sega, finished second.
Host Colony won the tournament with 321.5 points, followed by Wasilla in second with 304 points and Kodiak with 214. Palmer, Kenai and Soldotna rounded out the field.

The Kodiak High School Bears girls basketball team had another good weekend, sweeping the Palmer Moose up in the valley.
On Friday, Jerica Nelson led Kodiak with 13 points and Megan Pyles added 12 to down the Moose 53-26. Carissa Cannon scored 10.
On Saturday, the Bears won 39-to-21. Palmer only managed 7 points in the first half. Hannah Wandersee led the Bears with a dozen points, with Cannon and Megan Pyles adding 10.
Kodiak is now 4-0 in the Northern Lights Conference, and remain undefeated overall at 16-and-0.
The remainder of the Bears’ games will be here at home, giving fans a good opportunity to turn out and watch the best team in the state play some great basketball.

The Kodiak boys were slated to play a two-game home series here against Palmer, but the games were postponed due to poor weather. They have been rescheduled for next Monday and Tuesday.
