Since its first film screening in October of last year, Media Action has been continuing to put on workshops. The nonprofit organization is based out of Kodiak, and its purpose is to empower youth through film, and help them create short documentaries about conflicts or topics in their communities.
Media Action’s executive director, Marie Acemah, has recently become an independent consultant, but still plans to put on a three week film workshop with the Baranov Museum this summer that will focus on the Exxon Valdez oil spill. The organization was very busy with film intensives this past fall, and KMXT’s news intern, Marina Cummiskey, was able to attend a few days of the workshops.
