The Kodiak flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary recently selected its winners for the Kids Don’t Float poster contest. This was the third annual poster contest for Kodiak’s auxiliary, which accepts artwork from elementary school students and awards prizes for each grade level, plus a grand prize overall winner.
Hannah Deal, a fifth grader at East Elementary School, was awarded this year’s grand prize. All of the winners will be awarded during the March 31 school board meeting.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary is a uniformed, volunteer civilian division of the Coast Guard, and has more than 30,000 members nationwide. Their mission includes public education for boating safety, vessel safety checks and search and rescue.
