City, Borough and School Board Will Meet Tonight

It’s a busy night for Kodiak’s many governing bodies, starting with a joint work session between the borough assembly and school board at 6:30 p.m. On Monday night the school board approved a $51 million budget for fiscal year 2015, and intends to ask the borough for $522,000 more than it is currently being funded. Last year the borough approved $10.6 million in funding for the school district, which is the state allowed maximum.
The board and assembly will meet in the school district conference room for tonight’s work session. Following those discussions, the assembly will convene in a work session of its own in the borough conference room. On that agenda is a quarterly update from the solid waste advisory board, as well as a budget review of the borough’s general fund, special revenue funds and debt service funds. That work session is slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
At the same time, upstairs in the borough assembly chambers, the city council will hold a regular meeting. It’s a relatively dense agenda, starting with five proclamations and a report from the downtown Kodiak revitalization special committee. The council will also vote on whether or not to authorize a bid award for construction management services on the new Monashka pumphouse and authorization of purchasing yard piping for that project.
The council will also vote on whether or not to authorize an amendment to the professional services contract for construction management services for Phase 5 of the Aleutian Homes project, and vote on that project’s bid award.
The council’s regular meeting will be broadcast live on KMXT.
