Members of the Marine Highway Transportation Advisory Board will be in Kodiak this week. The group take part in a community reception tonight at the Kodiak Fisheries Research Center on Near Island, starting at 5:30 p.m. That will be a chance for people in Kodiak to come out and meet board members, and voice concerns or questions about the marine highway system.
The reception will also be a chance for folks to provide feedback or input on the Tustumena’s replacement, which will be an agenda item during the board’s meeting tomorrow. The meeting will start at 9 a.m. at the Kodiak Harbor Convention Center, and the board will hear a replacement update for the 50-year-old Tustumena, which is currently in the design process. The new ferry is being designed by a naval engineering firm out of Washington, and the hope is to have a final design in place by next summer.
The advisory board will also hear about the new Alaska Class Ferry’s design and transportation project plans and updates from Kodiak and Southeast Alaska.
