Chamber Warns of Phone Scams

The Kodiak Chamber of Commerce Monday sent an alert to its members warning them of a recent telephone scam they’ve become aware of.

Members have received calls from someone identifying themselves as from “Merchant Account Services,” wanting to discuss over-billing. They then ask the business to fax them statements so they can discuss their account. Doing so could expose a company’s private account details, opening them up to fraud.

The chamber says the numbers have been coming from the 214 and 866 area codes, and recommends businesses not answer or hang up on the callers and then notify their bank to ensure their accounts are secure.
