One Kodiak man is dead and another under arrest after after a stabbing incident on Sunday.

Just before 3 p.m. the Kodiak Police Department received a 911 call about a stabbing at a residence on Ole Johnson Avenue. Upon arriving, according to the KPD, officers found 59-year-old Dennis Fathke on the floor and not breathing. Despite CPR from police and then EMTs, Fathke succumbed to his wound in the emergency room at Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center.

Police spoke with 44-year-old Teila Tofelogo, who admitted accidentally stabbing Fathke.

Tofelogo told the police that he and Fathke had been having a laugh over the former’s “ninja” moves with a 12-inch curved-blade knife. Tofelogo told police that at one point Fathke stood up behind him. Without knowing Fathke was there, Tofelogo spun around and the knife went through his friend’s arm and into his left lung.

Tofelogo said he pulled the knife out and called 911 to report the incident. KPD arrested him on manslaughter and assault charges.
