Recognizing illegal drugs or paraphernalia is not always easy for many, especially if they’ve not been exposed to it. Because of that, friends or loved ones who may be abusing a drugs could be doing it without being immediately noticed.

As a result, an ad hoc coalition of local organizations will be offering training at a forum scheduled for next week. The Native Village of Afognak, KANA, Healthy Tomorrows, Celebrate Recovery, the school district and Kodiak Police Department have joined together for the event. The organizations will inform the attendees on resources available in Kodiak they offer.

The KPD will will have its new K-9 officer present to do a drug-sniffing demonstration, and will also make a presentation that simulates driving under the influence. It’s called the “Drunk Buster.” You’ll have to attend to get the full experience.

The community forum is open to youth and adults. It’ll be held on November 20th at the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium Drama Pod from 6:30 to 8 p.m. There’ll be pizza provided by Big Al’s and door prizes.
