A 382-foot barge carrying 2.2-million gallons of fuel was briefly aground on Saturday, two miles from Kodiak City. The “DBL-106” refloated on the next tide, but the Coast Guard ordered it to anchor up until a damage assessment was conducted. The 124-foot tug Bismark Sea, owned by Kirby Offshore Marine, was the towing vessel.
There was no immediate sign of pollution as a result of the grounding, and the barge was to have been boomed off until a damage assessment was conducted.
There were no injuries in the incident, and weather at the time included 15 mph winds and 3- to 4-foot seas.
