The Kodiak Bears will be heading to the Region III Tournament, having secured second place over the weekend with number-one Palmer. The Moose were in Kodiak for the match between the top two teams in the region.
Kodiak forced a tie in the region on Friday, beating Palmer in five games. Kodiak won the first 26-24, then lost the next two by identical 18-25 scores, forcing them to win the fourth and the tie-breaker, which they did 25-18 and 15-10, respectively. At that point, both teams had 7-and-2 conference records going into Saturday’s games.
Once again the Bears and the Moose were tied after four games, forcing the tie-breaker, which Palmer won by two points, 15-13.
The Northern Lights Conference tourney starts Thursday at Palmer High School. Both Palmer and Kodiak have first round byes in the tournament. The Moose will play the winner of the match between the fourth and fifth seed Thursday at 6 p.m. The Bears play the winner of the match between the third and sixth seed Thursday at 8 p.m.
