Records Fall as KHS Swimmers Repeat Again

The Kodiak High School swimming and diving team swept the Region III tournament over the weekend. The Kodiak girls won with 131 points, 63 more than runner up Colony, which edged host Soldotna by three. It is the girls’ eighth straight region title. The Kodiak boys racked up 107 points and downed Soldotna by 39 points to win their sixth straight.

There were six region records broken, all by Kodiak swimmers. Tahna Lindquist set new marks in the 200 yard individual medley and the 500 freestyle. In that last race, Lindquist broke the five-minute mark with a time of 4-minutes 56.5 seconds, a time that was more than two seconds faster than the boys’ 500 yard freestyle winner.

Ila Hughes set the record in the 50 yard freestyle.

On the boys’ side, freshman Talon Lindquist set marks in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke, and the boy’s 200 medley relay team set another. The records Talon beat were set 20 years ago.

Both Talon and Tahna were named Region III swimmers of the year.
