After its first year open, Threshold Recycling Center’s new Recycle Haven is doing quite well. KMXT’s newest intern, Keith Bruce, has more:
Director Ken Reinke gave an update on the Recycle Haven to the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly during its regular meeting earlier this month.
He said they celebrated the haven’s one year anniversary in September and raffled off round trip airline tickets to Anchorage. Roughly 200 people show up, which Reinke said likely helped their October numbers.
“Which were up 12 percent over October 2013. ”
He said they had taken in 67 tons of recycling this year and had an average of 389 cars in the Recycle Haven per week. Reinke also said they provided well over 6,000 hours of training and jobs for people with disabilities.
In addition to local donations, Reinke said Threshold has also received roughly $39,800 from organizations like the Rasmusson Foundation and Alaska Mental Health Trust.

*Keith Bruce is a 6th grader currently interning at KMXT.
