Kodiak Girls Continue to Roll

Jay Barrett/KMXT    The defending large school state champion Kodiak Bears were home this weekend against Palmer, and swept the Moose, first 38-23 on Friday and then 43-25 on Saturday. Kristhel Fangonilo had eight points on Friday and 11 on Saturday for the Kodiak girls, while Ila Hughes scored 16 points to lead the Kodiak girls on Saturday.     The West High – Alaska Airlines Classic in Anchorage wasn’t too kind to the KHS boys basketball team. The Bears lost to the host team 77-25 on Thursday afternoon while school was still in session, so the gym was reportedly packed with over a thousand cheering students. On Friday, Kodiak faced Cypress Bay High of Florida and came up short 49-34. Those two losses sent the Bears to the 7th place game on Saturday against the Colony Knights, who downed Kodiak 50-26.
