On the local sports scene, Kodiak runner Levi Thomet has once again been named the Gatorade Alaska Cross country Runner of the Year. It’s the third year in a row he’s achieved that honor as one of the top runners in the nation.

He, along with Kenai’s Allie Ostrander, who’s wins the award for the fourth year, are finalists for the national Gatorade Runner of the Year award, which will be announced later this month.

As you may recall, Thomet is a three-time state champion in cross country while leading the Kodiak High School Bears to a third consecutive team title. He also finished second at the Nike Cross Country Northwest Regionals and 15th at the Foot Locker National Championships.
