Folks heading to the Planning and Zoning Commission hearing last night at the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium had to detour around Rezanof Drive after a hit-and-run accident closed the road for a significant amount of time, starting around 6:25, as the injured pedestrian was treated by emergency medical personnel from the Kodiak Fire Department.

Police Chief Rhonda Wallace said her department is still investigating the collision, which injured Brent Watkins, a former member of the P and Z Commission who was on his way to the hearing. Wallace says Watkins was reportedly hit by a white pick up truck, which then fled the scene.

A family friend said Watkins suffered injuries to his head, ribs and pelvis, and is resting at an Anchorage hospital after being medevac’d out last night. She said he may be sent on to Seattle for further treatment.

According to the Borough Clerk’s office, Watkins served on the Planning and Zoning Commission from January 2005 to February 2013.

Chief Wallace said KPD investigators will likely close Rezanof near the high school for a time again today to search for more clues to the identity of the hit-and-run vehicle and its driver.
