The Kodiak High School Bears girls basketball teams is another step down the path to defending their state championship title. In the first round of the Northern Lights Conference tournament in Kenai yesterday (Thursday), the Bears won a defensive struggle to down the Palmer Moose 35-30. With the win, Kodiak advances to play number two seed Colony at 3:15 this afternoon. The Knights had a first round bye in the six-team double-elimination tournament.
In the boys’ bracket, number four seed Kodiak ran into a buzzsaw against number five Palmer as the Moose downed the Bears 77 to 61. They were to hit the court at 10 this morning in a consolation bracket game against the host Kenai Kardinals, who lost to the Soldotna Stars last night, 61-56.
