Salmon Catch Slows Over Weekend

Jay Barrett/KMXT

Kodiak area salmon harvests tapered off over the weekend. Friday saw over 418,000 of the five species caught, but that dropped by about 50,000 on Saturday, when about 370,000 were hauled in. Sunday, Fish and Game reported a harvest of just over 270,000.

The numbers rode the wave of the pink salmon harvest, as the king, red, silver and chum remained relatively steady, with one notable exception, when 107 king salmon were delivered Saturday.

On Friday, 348,811 humpies were reported to Fish and Game, 303,860 on Saturday, and 204,296 yesterday. Year-to-date pink catch is 4,622,957, while the all-species harvest is 6,042,163.
