Alaska’s unemployment rate was 6.7 percent in July. That compares with 6.8 percent a month earlier and 6.9 percent in July 2014. That was much higher than Kodiak’s, which was 4.4 last month, 5.8 percent in May and 5.9 percent in July a year ago.

In hard numbers, 300 people were reported out of work here in July, contributing to the 22,285 statewide. May saw 377 Kodiak borough residents seeking work, and 402 a year ago.

The state labor department says the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has been relatively level the past four months. April and May saw unemployment at 6.7 percent.

Nationally, the unemployment rate last month was 5.3 percent.
