Busy Weekend for KHS Athletes

Jay Barrett/KMXT

The Kodiak High School Bears were victorious on the Fort Abercrombie trails Friday against East Anchorage and Homer. Keith Osowski led the pack with a winning time of 16-minutes 37-seconds. The Bears’ Michael Parnell was just seven seconds back, and Jack Hannah was third in 17-minutes 20-seconds to secure all three podium spots for the Kodiak boys.

The Bears were first with 23 points. Homer had 48 in second and East was third with 69.

Kodiak’s Zoe Bigley led eight Bears to top-20 finishes with her second-place time of 20-minutes 54-seconds. Melissa De Guzman was less than a minute behind in sixth. Homer’s Megan Pitzman won in 20-minutes 28-seconds, leading the Mariners to the team title with 23 points. Kodiak had 48 and East had 92.

Full cross country results are after the jump.

On the gridiron, the Bears remain perfect, insofar as they still haven’t been victorious against the Soldotna Stars, losing on the road 49-14. Andreas Carros threw one touchdown pass in the second and ran for another in the fourth to account for Kodiak’s scoring.

At the net, the Bears started the volleyball season, sweeping the Colony Knights at home.

In the pool, the Kodiak swim team dropped the team title on Friday to Colony, but tied the Knights on Saturday.
