In a brief e-mail at 4 p.m. Friday, the Kodiak Police Department announced that it will turn over investigation of the Pletnikoff assault case to others.
The announcement from Chief Ronda Wallace’s office said it had completed the first phase of its investigation and that, quote, “the next step is a formal investigation conducted by a qualified independent investigator.”
The statement did not say who or what agency that might be.
In the meantime, the attorneys for the city contacted KMXT on Friday regarding our Freedom of Information Act request for documents surrounding the September 16th encounter between three police officers and Kodiak resident Nick Pletnikoff. KMXT was given instructions how to request the records we seek from the City Clerk’s office, which is the city’s keeper of records.
