The severe weather in our forecast is costing Kodiak ferry passengers a couple of travel opportunities this week.

The Alaska Marine Highway System announced this (Tuesday) morning that the ferry Tustumena sailings between Homer and Kodiak for today and tomorrow are being canceled due to forecast hurricane force winds.

Winds are expected to increase to 70 knots by tonight with seas building to 27 feet, before decreasing to 55 knots with seas subsiding to 23 feet tomorrow.

The ferry has been re-scheduled to sail from Homer to Kodiak on Thursday, Dec. 31.

The Marine Highway office staff staff is contacting affected passengers. More information can be found at ferry Alaska dot com or by calling local terminals toll-free at 800-642-0066.
