Weather Keeps Tusty in Port

Jay Barrett/KMXT

The Alaska State ferry Tustumena will be spending an extra day tied up in Kodiak because of the weather.

In a notice sent out by the Alaska Marine Highway System this (Wednesday) morning, the severe weather that is forecast for tonight will delay the Tustumena’s sailing for approximately 24 hours. The National Weather Service has issued a storm warning for the waters east and west of the Barren Islands with 55 knot winds and 26 foot seas.

The vessel is now scheduled to depart Kodiak at approximately 9:45 p.m. Thursday night.

Marine Highway staff are contacting affected passengers, but more information, including an updated sailing schedule, can be found at FerryAlaska.com.
