The defending large school track and field champions looked good over the weekend up in the Valley as they crushed the Class 4A competition in the Region III Track and Field Championships.

Led by a trio of individual winners, the Kodiak boys racked up 146 points to easily out pace the host Colony Knights, who placed with 118 points, and the Soldotna Stars who showed with 83. Kenai, Palmer and Wasilla rounded out the standings.

Billy Acaide took the 100 and 200 meter dash titles, while Keith Osowski won the 3,200- middle distance race, and Kordell Pillans dominated the shot put and discus throwing events.

The Kodiak girls were fourth overall in the team chase. Host Colony won with 145.25 points, followed closely by Soldotna and then Kenai. Wasilla and Palmer brought up the rear.

Zoe Bigley was Kodiak’s only solo winner, taking the 1,600 meter race by three seconds. She was also second in the 3,200 by about 10 seconds. As a squad, the Kodiak girls won the 400 meter relay.

We have full results after the jump.

The Bears will head to the state track and field championships Friday and Saturday at Dimond High School in Anchorage.
