One year from now the Kodiak Island Borough School Board and district staff likely will be preparing a going away party. The recipient? Departing Superintendent Stewart McDonald.
McDonald gave the school board one-year notice at its meeting this week. His last day will be the end of June – 2017.
In his letter, McDonald said he wanted to give the school board enough time to find the best candidates and ensure a smooth transition.
McDonald could have been leaving Kodiak much earlier.
Last week, he was passed over for the position as State Education Commissioner, for which he was the runner-up. That job starts next Friday, July 1st.
In his resignation letter, McDonald indicated he planned to continue working in education, in Alaska.
