Potential Candidates Have Looming Deadline

People planning on running for elected office this year have until 5 p.m. today, June 1st to register for primary and general elections. That’s the deadline for all positions including – United States AND Alaska senators and representatives.

According to the Alaska Division of Elections web site, there are currently no opponents for District P Senator Gary Stevens of Kodiak, either in the Republican primary or in the general election.

House District 32 Representative Louise Stutes of Kodiak has no primary challengers, though she will have two in the general election. Brent Watkins, a Democrat, is also running unopposed. Both will be joined in the general election by unaffiliated candidate Duncan Fields.

Folks interested in seeking state or federal office must submit a notarized declaration of candidacy, a financial disclosure statement, and their filing fee.

Election offices in Juneau, Anchorage, Mat-Su, Fairbanks, and Nome are open to receive completed applications. More information can be found at Elections.Alaska.gov.
