Pinks Surging as Kodiak Area Harvest Clears 2-Million

Salmon continue to swim into Kodiak area fishermens’ nets at a brisk pace. On Sunday, nearly 131,000 more fish were added to the season total, bringing the all-species catch to-date, according to Fish and Game numbers, up to 2,228,173.

Pink salmon are being caught in ever-increasing amounts, with over 73,000 harvested on Sunday, bringing the season total to just over 615,000.

Sockeye are still running strong, with over 47,000 hauled in, bringing the season catch of reds to about 1.3-million. Of the other three species frequenting the Kodiak Management Area, chum have accounted for over 287,000 of this season’s catch, with 7,800 added Sunday. There were over 2,200 silvers delivered as well, with the season catch up to 49,000. 67 king salmon were harvested on Sunday, with a season total of just over 5,600.
