Kodiak Swimmers Sweep Homer; Bears Stifled on Gridiron

Bear LogoKodiak High School’s swimming and diving teams swept the Homer Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Homer. The Kodiak girls scored 123 points, while runner-up Soldotna had 103. On the boys side, Kodiak had 168 for the win, while Soldotna posted 91 to finish second. The Kodiak girls took eight of the 12 events, while the Kodiak boys won six. There are full results inside.

On the gridiron, the Bears lost the first ever “Salmon Bowl” game against the Kenai Kardinals. That new rivalry was started with last year’s Kodiak defensive coordinator, Davis Lowery was hired as this year’s Kenai head coach. The Kardinals’ offense did its scoring early and often in dropping the Bears 30-to-6. Kodiak’s only touchdown came on a 76-yard interception return by Kaleb Finley in the fourth quarter.

After winning its first three games – all of them outside the Northern Lights Conference – the Bears have dropped two straight to NLC foes. Kodiak’s overall record is 3-and-2 and they are 0-2 in the conference.
