The third cruise ship of the season visited town yesterday.

Aimee Williams, executive director with the tourism business Discover Kodiak, says the 600-foot Silver Shadow from Silversea docked at pier three and stayed for the day. It’s on its way from Dutch Harbor and toward Homer.

Williams says there will be a total of 19 ships between the first landing earlier in the month and the last, which will be in October, and Kodiak continues to be a tourist destination.

“We’re starting to get some interest from some new cruise lines for [the] 2019 cruise season, so I think that tourism and cruise ships are gonna be on a nice, steady upswing in the next few years.”

She says one interested company is the Cunard cruise line, which will bring in double the typical number of passengers next year, about 3,000.

The fourth cruise ship of this season will drop by on Memorial Day Monday.
