Kodiak home prices hold steady through recession

Home prices in Kodiak have remained steady over the last few years despite the economic recession. That’s the finding in August’s edition of Alaska Economic Trends from the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

It shows that the average price to buy a home was around $314,000 in 2015, when the recession hit the state, and about $315,000 in 2017.

Overall, the Alaska average increased by almost $8,000, and the publication suggests that prices have remained fairly constant due to a number of factors, but including the influx and outflux of people, low interest rates, and the fact that many people who lost their jobs do not own homes in the state.
