Talk of the Rock: Sockeye

This summer’s sockeye returns have been some of the worst on record in many Alaska river systems, while others have fared okay.

Here on Kodiak Island, the lowest returns have been on the northeast side of the island, which is close to the city and the island’s most popular fishing ground.

For this week’s Talk of the Rock, Daysha Eaton talks with ADF&G research biologist Kevin Schaberg about this year’s salmon season and some theories about causes for low sockeye returns on Kodiak and across the state.
